There is sometimes in Japan I’m really not busy but it was not the case the last 2 weeks.It started with the good week-end in Autopolis and on Tuesday I went to Gotemba for making my seat in the New Formula Nippon Car.

Thursday I took the plane for Okayama, first to help a driver Robin Tato as a coach and also to see my friend Tiago who was racing in the WTCC.

It was a good time there with the Team E-rain and Robin really improved his driving.

I could spend a bit of time with Tiago and talk about the past, present and future.

It’s always very nice to see a good friend after a long time not see.

Unfortunately I couldn’t stay for the Sunday race because I had to go to Sendai for the New Formula Nippon test.

To be honest I don’t really like the design of the car but after I drove it and after I seen the new colouring (on paper not the actual colouring) we should have next year I changed my mind.

I really enjoyed in the car because it’s really quick in the medium speed and high speed corners. We still have to work on the mechanical set-up off course but the first impression gave me so much motivation for next year. The only one problem for moment is the heavy steering but swift engineers gonna work on it. On our car with the standard configuration we couldn’t stay flat in the last corner because if we did it we couldn’t steer. I tried ones and I nearly crash because I went nearly straight hahahahaha……

The driving style is close than what I like so it seems to be good for next year.

Anyway thanks to the fans who came to Sugo I really appreciate your support and your sweet presents (Have a look on the teddy bears)

October is a fruitful season, the season that leaves Benoit’s appetite on fire, it is just so hard to control but if not, weight wise the sky would be the limit. In fact and in order to counter balance, Benoit (along with sweet heart Melanie) have started a new and very popular micro-diet in September. With all the special weight restriction devices, for the Autopolis round the car is presently 80kg heavier. So Benoit did his best and aimed for the race with 68kg. Very well done!  

Whether due to the diet nor not, the XANAVI NISMO GT-R does the top time in the Friday free practice. Things are heading off to a good start; maybe it is thanks to the delicious wild boar stew Benoit could not resist, one of the local specialties at the welcome lunch hosted by the Autopolis Circuit?! It is a very heart-warming, stomach filling lunch after all that long and unexciting diet. But of course he is skipping dinner tonight. Maybe due to the empty stomach, Benoit dreams he is giving the wheel to Satoshi in first position and wishes this dream to come true.

Saturday Qualifying: Once the GT 300 finish time attack, the GT500 machines enter the track, contrary to the smooth and easy qualifying, which Benoit was expecting, the car’s feeling is not right with the corners especially uncontrollable. Luckily and with much effort, he marks 1′41.520 the second best time so far. But that wont be enough, there are other cars still on a hot lap, so here Benoit gives it one more try. He crosses the control line right before red flag. Many of the other cars top time is disqualified, others get penalized, so luckily Benoit ends in 2^nd on the first qualifying session heading for the Super Lap session and time attacking in 9^th position right before the top timer.

But Benoit is not happy with the car’s balance, and is caught by the biggest nervous attack, ever. Usually he does not eat when under stress however, this time he decides to eat, and what a good idea it was, all the stress is gone, after all maybe his stress was just an empty stomach.  

Super Lap: The first NSX to time attack does a great lap and leaves Benoit with another nervous attack, but its ok, he will just have another meal. He changes the setting for the SL; the racing machine responds marvelously, he can tell from the already perfect out lap. He wishes and it happens, a fantastic hot lap time, certainly PP on the grid, the first one after Rd2 at Okayama Circuit.   

Race day: Benoit tests the set up for the race, due to traffic, he in not able to run properly. The other NSX are going too fast. He is getting anxious. “What if I get overtaken right at the start??? I think I need a good lunch!” Its race time, we can hear chatter. But once on formation lap he begins to relax, concentrates for the perfect start, and here they go! He leads the 65 laps into the first corner and pushes hard throughout the first couple of laps just to keep it safe and away from confusion. All works out well, Benoit confidently leads the race, carefully overtakes the back markers and meticulously manages the tire performance, yes, because Autopolis is one of the hardest tracks, tire-wise. Benoit pits in after 26 laps for the tire changes and hands the wheel over to teammate, Satoshi after the pit crew smartly sends the car back on to the course. Now, Benoit sits and prays for the rest of a successful race. The veteran champion, Satoshi continues to keep a good distance from the others and leads the race to the checkered flag. XANAVI NISMO GT-R wins its 3^rd race of the season. They are now the point leaders with a substantial margin. Benoit is finally relaxed and ready for an extra large extra delicious dinner. And later for a great night’s sleep! Benoit is so relieved that Monday morning he wakes up with a swollen happy face.

Fuji Speedway is the last race of the season. It will be hard to win the next race but getting points is the important target. Believe it or not Benoit hasn’t yet won a SUPER GT Championship so this chance cannot be wasted. Obviously all the fan support is more then welcome, Oh!             En arrivant sur le circuit de l’île de Kyushu jeudi, les visages étaient tendus tant la pression était forte sur 3 équipages : la Nissan GT-R de Benoît et son coéquipier, la Honda NSX N°18 et la Toyota SC N°38 étaient toutes 3 en une poignée de points au sommet du classement du Championnat.

            Lors des 1ers essais officiels du week-end, la Nissan pointait un peu en retrait en raison de réglages mal adaptés aux conditions de la piste. Heureusement, les choses allaient rapidement changer grâce au travail effectué par toute l’équipe et la N°23 abordait la 1^ère séance qualificative relativement sereinement (si tant est que l’on puisse être serein lors d’un week-end de course lorsque le Championnat y est en jeu !). 4^ème au terme  de cet exercice, Benoît se trouvait donc en position d’avoir un ticket d’entrée pour la 2^ème partie de la journée. Puis, lors du « Super tour » il offrait aux nombreux supporters de la marque nippone une magnifique Pôle position avec près de 4 dixièmes d’avance sur les Honda qui le suivaient. La 1^ère partie de son contrat du week-end était honorée…mais le plus difficile restait à faire !

            Le lendemain, sur le magnifique tracé construit lors de la bulle économique japonaise dans l’espoir d’y accueillir la F1, Benoît lançait le grand bal des machines de Super GT à 14H. Il abordait le 1^er virage en tête et allait prendre plus de 2 secondes d’avance sur ses poursuivants dés le 1^er tour ! Solide leader, il n’allait pas quitter la tête de course jusqu’à ce qu’il passe le volant de la GT-R à Satoshi un peu avant la mi-course avec une très confortable avance. Grâce à un ravitaillement parfaitement effectué par l’équipe technique, cette avance augmentait encore et Satoshi pouvait s’abstenir de prendre de gros risque lors des 30 tours qui lui permettraient de rallier le drapeau à damiers. Le tandem franco-japonais fer de lance de Nissan s’offrait donc une magnifique 3^ème victoire dans le Championnat 2008 et se positionnait en tête à 3 semaines de l’ultime rencontre qui aura lieu sur le circuit de Fuji.

D’ici là, Benoît va tester le tout nouveau châssis SWIFT qui équipera les équipes de Formule Nippon en 2009 et se rendre sur la manche japonaise du WTCC pour y revoir son ami et ancien co-équipier T. Monteiro.

　10月は実りの季節。１年の中でも、最も食べ物がオイシイこの季節は、ブノワにとっては一番ツライ季節でもある。だって、食欲は人一倍あるんだけど、好きなだけ食べると太っちゃう体質なんだも～ん。そこで、ブノワは９月の終わりからダイエットを開始。今回、初めてあの“有名な”マイクロダイエットを買ってみた(笑)。オートポリスのＧＴでは、特別性能調整分もあわせて、全部でウェイトが80㎏。それでもドライバーが余り重いとダメだから、ブノワはメラニーも誘って毎日マイクロダイエットを食べ続けていたのだ。おかげでオートポリス入りした時点で、体重はベストの68㎏になっていた。

　さて、そのダイエット作戦のおかげもあって(？)、ブノワが乗るXANAVI NISMO GT-Rは、初日の練習走行でまずトップタイムをマーク。幸先のいいスタートを切った。これは、この日のお昼休みに地元の人たちが催してくれた歓迎会で満喫した、名物“イノシシ汁”のおかげかも…。ずっとダイエットしていたので、ことさら美味しく、元気をいっぱいもらったんだもん。ホントに作ってくださった皆さん、ごちそうさまでした。でも、その分、夜はゴハンを控えめにしておいたんだけどね(笑)。そのせいかどうか、眠りはいつもより浅かったらしく、レースではトップでサトシにバトンタッチする夢を見た。これが現実になるといいな～。

ということで、迎えた土曜日の予選１回目。まずはＧＴ300クラスの専有時間帯に続き、ＧＴ500クラスの時間帯がやってくる。昨日の感じでは、かなりの好タイムが期待できそうだ。ところが、コースに出てみると、全く前日とフィーリングが違い、クルマが全く思うように曲がってくれない。それでも何とかアタック１周目で１分41秒520というタイムをマーク。一瞬２番手に。だけど、それではまだ不十分。まだタイムアタックをしているクルマがたくさんいるからだ。そこでブノワもアタックを続行。だが、コントロールラインに戻ってきたところで赤旗が提示された。その結果、一時は４番手に留まったのだが、上位の中でも赤旗時のタイムを抹消されたり、ペナルティーを受けてしまったマシンがあったので、最終的には２番手に浮上。スーパーラップでは、10台中９番目に走行することになった。ただ、マシンバランスが決まっておらず、このままだとＰＰが獲れないかも知れない。それを考えたら、大きなプレッシャーが掛かってきて、イライラし始めた。こういう場合、ブノワは普通何も食べられなくなる。が、今回は全く違っていた。ダイエットの影響なのか、無性に何か食べたくなったのだ。そして、軽く食事をしたところ、イライラは解決。“何だ、お腹が減っていたからイライラしていたのか”と改めて気づいたのであった(笑)。そして迎えたスーパーラップ。最初に走ったＮＳＸのタイムが余りに速く、ブノワはまたしても不安に襲われる。こんなことならもっと食べて、もっと安心しておけば良かった…。しかし、スーパーラップまでにセットアップを変更したおかげで、ブノワのマシンはアウトラップから手応えあり。この時点で、“ＰＰ獲れるかも～”と思った通り、ブノワは他を圧倒するタイムをマークして、第２戦・岡山以来６戦ぶりのＰＰを獲得した。

そして、いよいよ決勝日。朝のフリー走行では、レースに向けてのセットアップを確認。渋滞も多いし、それほどタイムにはこだわらなかったが、ＮＳＸ勢が速くて、またもや不安になる。スタートで抜かれたりしたらどうしよう…。そこで、この日も普通は食べないお昼ご飯を摂り、ちょっとばかり安心。午後のレースに向かった。実際はグリッドでもまだ緊張でガチガチ。でも、フォーメーションラップで走り始めると、ちょっと身体もほぐれたし、スタートに向けて集中が高まってきた。ということで、ブノワは１コーナーでトップをキープ。接近戦を嫌って、最初の何周かは猛プッシュした。これで後方のマシンが離れてくれたので、あとは渋滞を上手くかわしながら、タイヤを労わって走り続けた。オートポリスはタイヤに厳しいコースなので、その点に一番気を使うのだ。それでもやはりタイヤの摩耗は早く、65周のうち26周を終えたところでブノワはピットイン。後半をサトシに託す。幸い、他のチームがピット作業で失敗したりする中、ニスモのスタッフは目を見張るようなスピードで、サトシをコースに送り出した。その後は、ピットで見守るだけ。だが、さすがにサトシは今まで何回もチャンピオンを獲っているだけあり、全く危なげない走りをしてくれた。ということで、最後まで２番手以下を寄せ付けず、XANAVI NISMO GT-Rは今季３勝目をマーク。タイトル争いでも、２番手以下に大きなポイント差をつけてトップに立った。ああ、ホッとした。ということで、この日は自分へのご褒美として、お腹いっぱい晩御飯を食べたブノワであった。もちろんお腹がいっぱいになった分、夜も安眠。月曜日の朝は、幸せ過ぎて顔がむくんでいるほどであった(笑)。

あとは富士を残すのみ。XANAVI NISMO GT-Rは、状況的に上位争いをするのは難しいのだが、何とかポイントを獲って、チャンピオンを獲りたい。何たって、ブノワは今までＳＧＴのタイトルを獲っていないので、このチャンスを逃したくないのだ。ということで、最終戦も引き続き、応援お願いしま～す。あ、そうそう。その時に、僕のＴシャツを着て応援したいんだけどまだ持っていないんだよな…と思ってくれている奇特なファンの方は、次のリンクからまだ購入可能なので、一度見てみてください。 Online Shop

This week-end as been very nice, I like to see old racing cars running and also it’s fun to see our racing car making burn.

I could also spend a little time with friends like HPI guys and Sugisaki-san (Kondo racing engineer).

Unfortunately  today my camera battery was done after showing my son video to Ma (Yanagida) so I couldn’t take  pictures.

Hi every one,

I really like to go to this event it’s really relax and we feel more close to you than when we are at the circuit.

At the circuit we are concentrate and stress by the race so it’s sometime difficult to be really free for you guys.

many people come today and I hope more will come tomorow.
